Should special interests or individuals with more money be able to influence our election process more than an individual? I am placing a $400 limit on any one contributor... (The limit on our state congressional elections.) My Budget for this election will be limited to $5000 (the amount I am allotted as a school board member.) My expenditures will be $2000 for signs, $125 for Colorado VAN, $500 for printing, $1200 for website, $200 for phone and web hosting, $475 for gas and miscellaneous costs... WOW! That's $500 (10%) under budget! NOW THAT'S A FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE PUBLIC SERVANT! Any extra I get will go directly to Art, Music, and Physical Fitness programs. That's right... there is no pay for these school board positions. I believe that our public education system needs some help and creative solutions! "YOU HAVE TO RAISE A LOT OF MONEY to get people to take your campaign seriously..." What if we really care about getting our kids the education that they all deserve? Shouldn't we be focusing our fundraising efforts on supplying education needs - not on getting ourselves elected? That said, please contribute a minimal amount to my campaign... I promise to work on public financing for school board elections AND getting funding for Music, Art, and Physical fitness!
