Help support Jacqui's run for Denver Public School Board

Jacqui will be riding her bike between Denver schools and neighborhoods collecting signatures... on her
"AMP! the Brain... MAP! your Strategy... Scholar Warrior Pledge" for DPS!

Stop her and tell her your joys and your concerns for the Denver Public Schools. Feel her enthusiasm!
We are trying to get input from parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, community friends and of course - educators!

Because Art, Music and Physical Activity are important!

Educate the Spirit... *Art, Music and Physical fitness!

Jacqui Shumway, M.A. - Parent, Teacher, Small Business Owner
20 years teaching experience at C.U., Metro and Community Colleges!
A product of public education herself, Jacqui has put 3 of her own kids through DPS.
Has worked tirelessly on numerous boards that promote health and education issues!
A small business owner with a background in finance and accounting - she can creatively deal with the budget issues!

Issues - Help Support Well Educated, Healthy Children!
Art, Music and Physical Activity (AMP) are too important... research has shown AMP improves
academic performance and self-discipline. Budget cuts in art, music and physical activity
make education little more than multiple-choice tests.
Support our neighborhood schools! They allow us to be more of a community!
Improved discipline and resources in the classroom translates to greater learning!
Join our E-mail tree of parents and educators who want all of our schools to do better!

2nd World Congress on Exercise is Medicine Comes to Denver Summer 2011!

ACSM Annual Meeting in conjunction
Denver, Colorado May 31-June 4

More than 5,000 attendees will gather to enjoy presentations of original research for
professionals working in sports medicine and exercise science.

An Historic Commitment to World's Prescription for Health

Exercise Is Medicine is an initiative focused on encouraging health care providers to include exercise when designing treatment plans for patients. Exercise and physical activity are integral to the prevention and treatment of diseases and should be regularly assessed as part of all medical care. The World Congress on Exercise is Medicine, serves as an international forum to address the science, practice and policy aspects of the impact physical activity has on disease prevention and health promotion. This year, learn about what international colleagues have done to begin implementing Exercise Is Medicine in countries across the globe. The second world congress will discuss the development of the global initiative, and how you can be involved.

The Colorado Governor's Council for Physical Fitness and
the TCM College of Sports Medicine

CGCPF will play an integral role in assisting with this international conference and ensure that Colorado is a leader in keeping our people healthy. TCM College of Sports Medicine's particular interest is to make sure Tai Chi and Qigong play an integral part in the Exercise Is Medicine efforts. (After all, we have a few thousand year head start in using Exercise as Medicine.)

Colorado Governors Council for Physical Fitness...

Is looking for volunteers to affiliate with council members as they assist with the 2011 conference and with implementing Exercise Is Medicine here in Colorado. If you would be interested in helping contact Joe or Jacqui at 303-744-7676 or Email: taichiproj@earthlink.net
